Belarusian political prisoner Anna Skrigan is a candidate of geography, former head of Mahiliou branch of the international association “Ecoproject”. Anna was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. The woman participated in environmental discussions and “burned” with the idea to improve the ecological situation in Mahiliou.
“Low ecological culture reaches sometimes to ecological ignorance. Besides, we have everyone picking at his professional tiny cell. There is a need to just talk and socialize. Here we’ve run into Podnicol [with landscaping]. Professionals falter when proposals are made to them. Community initiatives sometimes lack the knowledge and contacts needed to solve a problem. Citizens are not as involved as we would like them to be. But dialog is necessary,” Anna said in one of the discussions.
