Belarusian Anna Iliina was sentenced to three years in a penal colony for insulting a representative of the authorities. Unknown persons from a fake account posted a video clip of Ilyina on her page in “VKontakte”. There she said that “in good faith mistaken in her beliefs, in her Facebook post, she inadvertently insulted the President of the Republic of Belarus.”
The former political prisoner was close to Anna in the colony. Here’s what she says about her:
“One could approach her with any question and she knew the answer to it. Everyone in the colony has a hard time, but she, as it seemed to me, had a special hard time. Anya managed to remain a vegetarian in the colony and there are people there who were inspired by her example and became vegetarians.”
