Together with journalist Darya Chultsova, she became a defendant in a criminal case for organizing actions that grossly violate public order, after a live broadcast from the scene of a violent dispersal by security forces of people who came to honor the memory of murdered Roman Bondarenko, at “Change Square” in Minsk on November 15, 2020. On February 18, 2021, the court of Frunzenski district of Minsk announced the verdict, according to which Katerina received 2 years of imprisonment in a colony of general regime.
On April 7, 2022 it became known that Ekaterina was charged with state treason. Under the new article, Catherine faces from 7 to 15 years in prison.
On July 13, the verdict was announced: 8 years of imprisonment under part 1 of article 356 of the Criminal Code (“Treason against the state”). The trial was held in closed mode, the case was classified. Ekaterina’s lawyer remains under strict non-disclosure and cannot tell any circumstances even to her relatives. By summing up the terms, the final sentence amounted to 8 years and 3 months.
